Working with families - Vision4change

V4C is an innovative programme that involves parents and carers to  support their son or daughter in developing  the skills they need to succeed in their education and in life.

The V4C programme is not a parenting programme, instead parents and carers are invited to attend sessions in school where they work with their young people. Through  discussion and active learning they support the development of  their childs social and emotional skills as well as their own understanding of these skills. The programme support parents and carers to develop their relationships with their young people, both through the activities in the sessions, and in the follow on activities which they are encouraged to complete at home

We  recognise that many of our young people do not have the necessary skills that enable them to access their learning, manage their own feelings and work well with other people. The 6 session programme aims to develop young peoples skills in these key areas.  We believe that focusing on these skills will help young people  be successful in education and will help them in the future as employers value young people who are able to manage themselves and get on well with other
people. The programme:-
  • Develops social and emotional skills
  • Builds links with parents and carers
  • Supports parents and carers
The focus in the sessions will be on having fun and working together. We believe that this model of young people and their parents and carers working together will benefit the young people and will give parents and carers new ideas to try out in addressing issues at home.
Unlike other programmes, we believe that the best people to be working with your parents are your staff. We will train and support your staff to deliver the sessions. We can support individuals and co-deliver sessions as required in order to build on the skills and develop the confidence needed to run the sessions.

What support do we offer?

Initially we will arrange to come into your school or centre and meet with you to discuss the programme.
We support you to identify pupils who will be suitable for the programme  and we  will give you a leaflet that you can send to parents. We will advise on strategies to get parents on board.
We will then arrange a time to meet with and train your staff – this is usually a twilight session. At this meeting we will provide you with the session plan and materials for the sessions.

We will advise on how the programme can be measured and we have designed an emotional intelligence questionnaire for young people and their parents / carers to complete.
We will always attend the first session and can attend as many as you like – we can offer support or can co-run the sessions depending on the confidence and skills of your staff.

At the end of the programme we will support you to evaluate the programme.
